Who and What is Renegade Romance?

Renegade is independently owned and operated by April Lee—a lifelong reader who runs solely on caffeine and chaos. As a long time subscription book box subscriber herself she never imagined she'd be running her own one day, but now cannot imagine not doing so!Renegade Romance is truly a passion project. Born out of the love for romances that feature aliens, monsters, and more—it’s the desire to shine a light on the extraordinary, wondrously weird, brilliant stories that hide out in this niche and to continue supporting (and fangirling over) the talented authors who write them.From aliens to cyborgs, monsters and myths, Renegade Romance will feature romance books by the authors who give us tentacles, tails, horns, wings, fins, fangs, and claws.

“Will future boxes have books with POC characters?”
“Will future boxes feature POC authors?”
“How is Renegade supporting diverse communities?”
“Will Renegade feature FF/MM books?”

I get asked these questions by many readers/supporters and I want to address them today.I, and as an extension my business Renegade Romance, fully support diversity and equality. What does that mean beyond a social stance? This means, when in the future, there is an opportunity for me to feature BIPOC authors or books that have BIPOC/2SLGBTQIA+ characters, I will happily do so while also balancing Renegade’s bedrock (genre, theme, purpose, etc.).Through careful research and consultation with sensitivity buyers, we have created a policy that Renegade Romance will work hard to always achieve:

“Renegade is committed to diversity through proactive support of the BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, which means, having visibility of BIPOC authors, books with BIPOC/2SLGBTQIA+ characters, and BIPOC-owned businesses in our boxes and throughout our business. This policy also extends to ensuring accessibility to persons with disabilities.”

What does this look like?→ I will never just have a BIPOC author only “themed” box, because I believe showing support is not a singular occurrence. As such, I will strive to ensure natural incorporation throughout my business as the best way to show my support.
→ I will strive to work with BIPOC authors when given the chance and they align with RR’s bi-monthly theme.
→ I will strive to work with BIPOC artists to give them visibility in the book and book-box communities.
→ I will strive to ensure Renegade’s social media posts (IG, FB, website, etc.) are accessible. Additionally, moving forward, Renegade boxes will now only feature plain text “What’s in the Box” cards to accommodate all.
→ While not a traditional business meaning no traditional hiring practices, when/if down the road I do need help, I will strive to have an inclusive work environment and practices.Renegade Romance appreciates all your support and feedback.
